An essential notion for Dorset buttons making, these hollow brass rings are ideal moulds for the classic cartwheel and other “ring and thread” or thread wrapped buttons. They are also the perfect form for the Dorset Singleton (ring and fabric) buttons.
Initially, these rings are actually hollow brass sew-on curtain rings and are ideal for this use still. However, this particular assortment pack of 8 brass rings in 6 sizes is especially suited for button makers (beginners or otherwise more experienced) to practice their passementerie skills.
On the other hand, they are so versatile that if you are a multi-crafter like me, you will find plenty of other ways to put them to good use: knitting stitch markers / pattern markers, jewellery making, clasps holders – great when you need them organised by size.
What else will you do with your hollow brass rings?
Sold per pack of 8, containing 6 different sizes as follows:
One ring of each (mm): 13, 16, 22 and 32.
Two rings of each (mm): 19 and 25
The brass rings are also available as a single size pack of 10.
Please note that there are variations of up to about +/- 0.7mm in the ring dimensions.
Please note that the rings are not soldered close. They are made from a flat piece of metal which has been bent into shape to create the hollow design and therefore the “seam” can be seen at the back of the ring. More photos available on request.
Care Instructions:
Please note that the rings may come from different sources and therefore have a copper content that varies from one ring to the next.
For this reason I would not recommend that the buttons are washed in water as the ring may stain the fabric or thread. It may be best to remove the buttons which are made with the rings.
