Chenille needles are identical in size and thickness to the blunt tapestry needles. They are basically sharp tapestry needles – long eye with a sharp point, especially designed for surface embroidery on cottons and silks, but also ideal for heavy embroidery work in closely woven materials. An essential haberdashery item in embroiderers’ and hand sewers’ sewing kit, they are supplied in a paper folder as a pack of 6 in assorted sizes 18/22.

These needles have a black non-reflective surface and a white eye, which is very soothing to the eye and which makes threading so much easier. They are made from hardened and tempered steel and are NOT nickel plated! This is good news if you suffer from metal allergies. In fact, they are not plated at all, which means that these needles may last longer than other allergy sufferers options such as gold plated needles. Often, after a while, the oil in your hands and the friction caused by the action of sewing will corrode the plating which will fade away and make your needle drag as the plating becomes uneven.
