This hand-turned darning egg with a fixed handle is crafted from recycled hardwoods sourced locally in Nottinghamshire, including oak, beech or teak. Each piece is turned from a single block of wood on a traditional lathe, meaning the egg and handle are one continuous form with no joins. Every tool is completely unique, showcasing natural variations, grain patterns and marks that reflect the wood’s previous life.
The smooth, curved egg provides a stable surface for repairing socks, knitwear and woven garments. Its gently tapered shape works especially well for tight or awkward areas such as heels, toes, children’s clothing and narrow sleeves. The integrated handle, shaped with a comfortable rounded base, offers excellent grip and control during visible mending, darning and freestyle embroidery.
Finished with vegan, nut-safe hemp oil, the surface is silky smooth while highlighting the natural character of the wood. These darning eggs are made with sustainability at their core: recycled hardwoods, minimal waste and plastic-free packaging.
Please note the mending wool shown in some photographs is for illustration only and is not included.
